Wild DFW: Explore the Amazing Nature Around Dallas-Fort Worth from Timber Press celebrated its two-year anniversary in July. The latest book by naturalist and journalist Amy Martin has been highly praised for its 25 hiking adventures through its rare prairies, diverse bottomland forests, limestone escarpments, Eastern Cross Timbers, and wetlands. No more can it be said that there’s no nature in North Texas. Wild DFW lays it all out, complete with maps.

The book’s first section is praised as a natural history and ecology primer for North Texas, providing readers with master-naturalist-level knowledge while also exploring topics such as weather, geology, nighttime nature, creek kids, wildlife sanctuary yards, citizen science, and more. The field guide, with its clever tidbits and easy-to-grasp info, covers over 100 species of native flora and fauna. More than 350 color nature photos and 30 detailed maps in this gorgeously laid-out book. Cover art by popular muralist Mariell Guzman, who is featured at Meow Wolf Grapevine.
