Northeast Texas Trail

from New Boston, just west of Texarkana, all the way to Farmersville, just northeast of Dallas

Stretching 132 miles along former rail lines through beautiful Texas backwoods and unspoiled blackland prairie, it will be the 5th longest trail in the nation

Traveling through seven counties and 19 towns, the trail offers a way to explore the past as you enjoy the relaxed pace of country life in small town Texas.

Right now, the trail can be hiked, and intrepid mountain bikers can ride it. Sections of the trail are paved and clearly marked. But large parts of the NE Texas Trail remain to be upgraded. Fortunately, volunteers from local communities are pitching in–the trail is an amazing work in progress!

The Northeast Texas Trail is a Rails to Trails conversion along two unused railroad rights-of-way. The Union Pacific Railroad, the Kiamichi Railroad and the Rails to Trails Conservancy have deeded the right-of-way to the cities, counties, and trail organizations along the 130 miles for specific use as a non-motorized trail.
